NoFap has been a useful tool for my recovery journey. It is a vibrant, positive, youthful community of PMO (pornography, masturbation, orgasm) addicts seeking to quit.
It's different from 12 Steps in some ways, primarily in that it isn't a program designed for the low-bottom chronic relapser. It can be a part of my 12 Step program as a true sex addict, but much of the materials and resources are aimed at the "problem user." That simply isn't me; I'm the hopelessly addicted type.
My favorite thing about this community though, is the wealth of scientific studies, videos, art, and fellowship. I will share some of those here.
A wonderful person named ToddC2004 archived a bunch of his deleted videos here (Warning: Gdocs outside link).
My favorite quote of his:
“The malicious censorship tactics of the porn industry and its sexology allies curb scientific and public debate. Just as Big Tobacco once did, they distract the public from the well-documented risks of porn’s harm to both users and those it exploits.”
