This is one of the greatest explanations I have ever heard for Step 1 - especially the second part about "our lives were unmanageable".
After many years in and out of AA, this is how Clancy I.'s sponsor finally got through to him the nature of addiction. It applies to all addicts "of our type."
Mark H. and Joe H. - Step 1 with Chronic Relapsers
This is a talk called "Next Steps – Emotional Sobriety – Part 2 (Step 1, Spiritual Malady examined)"
Mark H. cuts through the baloney to give a powerful explanation of the first Step, and it's importance even after 18 years of sobriety.
Some more of his talks can be found here.
Clancy I. - Psychoanalysis doesn't work (excerpt, edited) Another great Clancy talk. Clancy is the founder of the largest 12-Step meeting in the world. When he died of natural causes, he was over 50 years sober, and very active in AA for that entire time.
"Blind" Dave - Step 10 (excerpt, edited) A superb (and hard to find) breakdown of the usefulness to Step 10.
Don C. - Native American (Outside Link) A wonderful talk from an indigenous leader about his journey through the 12 Steps. Don C. is the founder of White Bison, a movement to support native peoples through the 12 Steps and recover from addiction. There is another site for their work here as well.
High-quality podcast put on by the BayArea SAA intergroup. Great to listen to if you can't catch a meeting. The most recent episode is below, click here for all episodes.
Bob D. & Scott L. - Step 1 One of my favorite recovery workshops. Listening to this has been life-changing for me. It is for AA, but just about everything applies to Sex & Pornography addiction. This is Step 1 edited from their 10 hour workshop below.
Bob D. & Scott L. - "From Surrender to a Spiritual Awakening" One of my favorite recovery workshops. Listening to this has been life-changing for me. It is for AA, but just about everything applies to Sex & Pornography addiction. The longer I work the 12 Steps and go to meetings, the more the 12 Steps make sense across different addictions.
